What are the best times to trade Forex?

What are the best times to trade Forex?

The best times to trade Forex come from analyzing price movement during different time zones. This is because currency prices fluctuate not only because of market conditions but also the time zone in which they are traded. It's a well-known fact that FX trading occurs around the clock, and there is always 24 hours' worth of deals being made somewhere in the world, every day.

However, the daily pattern of price fluctuations differs from one currency to another and according to time zones. The chart below illustrates a typical scenario in which the US sessions account for about 70% of the trading volume.

The US market is far ahead of others in terms of liquidity and volumes traded, making it ideal for traders to focus on such time zones.

This is not to say that the other markets are not liquid enough to trade, as there were plenty of opportunities during low liquidity Asian and early European trading hours. However, those trading times may require more patience and skill.

As mentioned earlier, the Forex market operates around the clock and this also applies to news releases. Major economic announcements are released in different time zones at various hours making it possible to trade the news. The best time to do this is during London and New York sessions which account for most of the market activity.

It is advisable not to trade immediately after a major news release as currency prices tend to gap, i.e., move significantly in either direction, with little or no regard to the economic event. This is due to traders positioning themselves before the announcement, which can create false breakouts.

This means that if you are planning to trade after news releases, it's best to wait for some retracement of price movements caused by the release, which will provide a better entry point into the market.

However, this does not mean that you should wait forever before entering a trade after a news release. A good practice is to wait for an hour or two if possible as most traders are still digesting the information and therefore the price action will be more stable.
